CGAI Team Visits BHEL Pilot Gasification Project Site at Hyderabad
A three membered team of senior executives visited the BHEL’s coal gasification pilot facility at Hyderabad and held detailed discussions with senior project team to understand the technology used, its advantages. The BHEL team took us around the pilot coal gasification plant, explained the various equipment used and parts of the gasifier. BHEL has over the years collected immense experience in coal gasification. BHEL had established a bigger coal gasifier plant at Trichy
The pilot project plant at Hyderabad consists of the gasifier unit, Syngas purification unit, Oxygen unit and methanol unit with a capacity of 0.25 TPD. The project was funded by DST and NITI Aayog.
The BHEL team is very confident that this indigenous technology can be upscaled without any problem and barring a few critical equipment it utilizes over 90% equipment made in India. CGAI assured full support to BHEL team to showcase and help promote BHEL’s indigenous technology. CGAI team informed the BHEL team that CGAI plans to organize a workshop in near future and would like BHEL team to take opportunity to present and showcase their technology.
CGAI thanked the BHEL Team and Top BHEL management for their excellent hospitality during the visit.
CGAI Team Visits The Thermax Coal Gasification Pilot Facility At Pune
A senior three-person team visited the Thermax coal gasification facility at Pune which has the capacity to produce 1 TPD of methanol. Thermax has perfected their technology which can be successfully used for any high ash coal of Indian mines as per their claim. Niti Ayog has granted them permission to take up to 100 tons of different coals from coal India for gasification studies.
The Thermax team made excellent presentation on their technology and the facilities of their pilot plant facility followed by the visit to the plant. Shri M Murthy, MD led the team for interactions. The gasification facility consists of a fluidized bed gasifier, the produced Syngas is then purified by passing through the condenser to remove moisture, solvent based tar removal unit, Scrubber to remove Ammonia, System to remove heavy metals, H2S and CO2 removal system.
This purified Syngas has reasonable high calorific value and is fed into the methanol reactor which gives over 90% pure methanol. This methanol is further purified to over 99 % through distillation.
All the functioning of the pilot plant is controlled by a central control room. The CGAI team was very much impressed by the excellent upkeep of plant, knowledge and experience gained by the Thermax team. The Thermax team is confident that they can upscale the capacity and implement any coal gasification project for Coal to methanol or Ethanol in the country.
CGAI have assured Thermax team to help promote their indigenous technology. CGAI is very thankful for the hospitality extended to its team during the visit.
