Interesting Discussions on Coal Gasification in India Energy Conclave 2023
India Energy Conclave was held during 23-24th November 2023 at SCOPE Complex, New Delhi. Over 140 delegates participated in the Conclave. Impact of climate change, new emerging clean energy sources and various aspects of energy transition were discussed in 5 sessions.
Interesting discussions were held in the session 3 on coal to liquids/ value added products/ coal gasification. The session was chaired by Dr A K Balyan, Secretary General of coal Gasifiers Association of India. He mentioned that vast resources of coal in India is great opportunity for the country. clean coal technologies like coal gasification has the potential to significantly meet the energy requirement of the country besides offering substitution of many imported products.
M/S Thermax Ltd, Pune showcased their indigenous coal gasification technology which has been developed and working successfully in the pilot plant. The technology is suitable for high ash Indian coals. Thermax has been operating 1 tpd coal to methanol plant successfully. Dr Dev Kumar Gupta Program Manager of Thermax made an excellent presentation and answered delegates questions.
Dr Sujan Saha, Senior Principal Scientist, CSIR-CIMFR, Dhanbad shared the details on design development of Gasifiers suitable for Indian coals. He informed that the laboratory is ready to provide suitable design and help in fabrication of Gasifiers within the country for any company willing to invest in coal gasification in India.
Mr Nitin Mohan Chautre, AGM, Engineers India Ltd shared some latest R&D work being carried out at EIL. Complete engineering services including PMC work capabilities are available with EIL.
The session invoked lot of interest.
